The global pressure washer market report covers sizing and forecast, shares, industry trends, growth drivers, and vendor profiling. The study includes insights on segmentation by power sources (electric, battery, gas), output types (0-1500 PSI, 1501-3000PSI, 3001-4000 PSI, and 4000+ PSI), end-users (residential, commercial, and contract cleaners), and geographies (Europe, North America, APAC, and Latin America)
Market Overview
Pressure washers are powerful equipment that use high-pressure water spray to remove dirt, mold, dust, and other stains from hard surfaces such as buildings, walls, roofs, and swimming pools. They have widespread applications in residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. In terms of geography, Europe has occupied the largest share of the pressure washer market for decades and captured one-third of the market in 2018, followed by North America and APAC. Alfred Karcher, Nilfisk, Robert Bosch, Briggs and Stratton, and the FNA Group are the major vendors worldwide. Recently, Hustler, a leading outdoor power equipment manufacturer, launched a range of washers, which were lightweight, convenient, and durable. Bosch introduced Fontus, a cordless low-pressure cleaner, designed for both residential and commercial purposes.
The pressure washer market is characterized by the presence of several global and regional vendors, which compete based on quality, technology, services, and price. With expanding technological innovations and an increasing number of mergers and acquisitions, the competition is expected to intensify further. Leading vendors are investing in R&D activities to develop customer-centric products with high capacities and long battery life. The global pressure washer market is expected to reach around $3 billion in 2024, growing at a CAGR more than 3% during the forecast period.
Market Dynamics
The rise in disposable incomes and the adoption of professional cleaning equipment have positively affected the pressure washer market. With the significant growth in the construction of offices and work-space buildings, the demand for commercial services has increased significantly. The pressure washing service industry is increasingly adopting green technology, which is environment-friendly with low carbon emissions. The growth in environmental awareness is expected to influence the global market growth during the forecast period.
Pressure Washer Market - Segments
This research report includes a detailed segmentation of the market by power sources, end-users, output types, and geographies.
Insights by Power Source
The electric pressure washing segment captures more than half of the global market, followed by gas and battery power washer segments. The equipment with a maximum pressure of around 2500 PSI is generally used for domestic purposes, including cleaning small decks, patios, furniture, and stain removal.
A gas pressure washer, on the other hand, is more powerful and is used for heavy-duty cleaning purposes. Most gas-powered models produce the pressure of around 2800 PSI, with high-end models reaching up to a maximum level of 4200 PSI. A battery washer is powered by lithium-ion batteries. It can be used without electric and water supply. Further, battery-powered equipment are silent, require low maintenance, and do not produce fumes.
Insights by Output Types
The pressure washer market by output can be categorized into 0 to 1500 PSI type, 1501 to 3000 PSI type, 3001 to 4000 PSI type, and 4000 PSI+ type. The 1500 to 3000 PSI type segment dominated more than half of the market in 2018 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 3% during the forecast period.
The 1500 to 3000 PSI washer type segment consists of gas and electric power sources. This equipment is extensively used for cleaning of concrete, sidewalks, walls, and other hard surfaces. The 3001 to 4000 PSI washer segment is the second largest one by output. These models are highly powerful and are used for heavy-duty outdoor application; they can easily remove mud, dirt, dust, and debris from sidewalks.
Generally, battery-operated equipment falls under the category of 0 to 1500 PSI. They are used for light duty cleaning purposes. They are highly portable, produce less noise and are lightweight. The 4000+ PSI segment accounts for the smallest share of around 8%. As they are designed for heavy-duty commercial use, they require high-maintenance and comparatively are expensive than other variants.
Insights by End-users
The residential segment accounted for more than one-third of the market in 2018 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 3% during the forecast period. The increase in dual-income households and the growth of aging population are expected to increase the size of the residential segment.
The commercial segment comprises heavy-duty washers that are used in multiple sectors such as hospitality, agriculture, and municipality. Growing labor costs, increasing business opportunities, and a rising number of vehicles have fueled the demand for commercial cleaning equipment. Major drivers for the growth of the contract cleaning industry are increasing disposable income, rising construction expenditure, and growing business establishments.
Insights by Geography
Europe accounted for one-third of the global market in 2018. Growing business investments, increasing commercial and residential construction activities, and rising government spending on infrastructure are major factors for the high share in Europe. North America is witnessing a high demand for pressure washing systems due to strong growth in the economy, the rise in construction activities, the establishment of new business, the expansion in commercial spaces, and the rise in disposable income.
APAC comprises countries such as India, Australia, China, and Japan, which are the fastest growing economies. Therefore, factors such as strong economic growth, increased construction activities, and the presence of the growing aging population are likely to drive the market significantly in the next coming years.
Latin America and MEA comparatively hold small shares. Mexico and Brazil are the largest consumers of cleaning equipment in Latin America. The implementation of green cleaning initiatives and the presence of low-cost labors are expected to increase the demand for pressure washing products in Latin America. Further, the strong economic growth of GCC countries and high-consumer spending will play a vital role in expanding the market in MEA.
